According to the World Tourism Organization, China is set to become the world’s most visited country and the planet’s top source of foreign tourists by the year 2020. In response to this growth, several giants of the hotel and hospitality industries are joining forces to create Ahn Luh, an upscale resort concept expected to sweep China.
Partners of this venture are Beijing Travel Group and the international hotel management group GHM, and the Great Ocean Group. The plan is to infuse old-world Chinese hospitality into modern amenities and eco-conscious designs. The group’s first project is to be the Ahn Luh Dujiangyan in Chengdu.
“We’re planning to build on the great architectural traditions that have evolved in China over the past three thousand years, but at the same time, we’re looking to exude the enthusiasm and the innovative spirit that abounds throughout China,” said Douglas Zhao, Ahn Luh’s executive chairman.
Ahn Luh will feature huge rooms and suites, and each property will have a hotel spa with a resident Tai Chi master (and an accompanying Tai Chi center). In the way of food, there will be “dian xin” breakfasts, and all-day Chinese-style tapas bars. Other amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, libraries, cigar lounges, executive spaces, specialized retail shops featuring Chinese medicine, and a fleet of Wi-Fi-enabled cars. Some Ahn Luh properties will feature private residences. Each property will cater to its local heritage, with no two resorts being alike. Future locations being eyed by the new chain are Beijing, the Pearl River Delta and Southwest China.
