Chinese Tourists Ranked No. 1 in Spending Globally, But Growth is Slowing

Chinese tourists from the Mainland ranked No. 1 in global duty-free spending in 2013 for the fourth consecutive year, according to Global Blue statistics. Chinese spending was up 3 percent compared to a year ago and 10 percentage points higher than second place Russians.

While Chinese tourists spending growth was strong at 20 percent, it had slowed from the 57 percent and 59 percent, respectively, of the previous two years. Furthermore, spending per transaction had also declined by 7 percent.
