Rolex has become the title sponsor of the upcoming Shanghai Masters, which will be renamed the Shanghai Rolex Masters this year. It is the only ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Asia.

The ATP World Tour Masters 1000 is a series of nine tennis tournaments that are part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour, held annually throughout the year in 9 cities around the world. They are the most prestigious tournaments in men’s tennis after the four Grand Slam events and are required for top mens players on the professional circuit.

The tournament attracts over 100 of the world’s leading players including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, among others.  This year’s Shanghai Rolex Masters runs from October 9 – 17 at the Magnolia-roofed Qizhong Stadium.

The total prize money is $3.2 million with the champion of the nine day event receiving over $600,000 and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II timepiece.

Earlier this year, the Shanghai Rolex Masters was voted by players to win the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year Award, becoming the first tournament ever to do so in its inaugural year.

Shanghai is working hard to become a world-class tennis destination and is adding a new two story, 3,600 sq meter Retail Pavilion that will accommodate more than 40 shops and sponsor displays, and a new 8,000 sq meter Hospitality Pavilion that will seat over 3,000 people for corporate dining, entertaining and public food concessions. The walkway connecting the Stadium Court and Grandstand court, called the Walk of Champions, will be lined with life size terracotta warrior tennis players. Every new singles champion will have his terracotta warrior statue made to be placed on the Walk of Champions.
