5 Emerging Chinese Designers Debut on thecorner.com

Expect to see more emerging Chinese fashion talent in the new year both in magazines and through online commerce.

Vogue China and Yoox’s e-commerce site, thecorner.com.cn, fete five emerging Chinese designers — Uma Wang, Christine Lau, Manchit Au, Shangguan Zhe and Zou You — at Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum last Friday.

The designers are making their debut on thecorner.com. About 18 pieces of their women’s lines will be available until spring 2012, selling at prices of 1,000 to 6,000 yuan (US $150 to $950).

Guests were treated to a look at some of their fall-winter 2011-12 collections through displays in the museum and a fashion show.

Perhaps the best known among the five is Uma Wang, who has been around since 2005. Despite having shops around the world, Uma’s global exposure remains limited. Now with the support of Vogue and Yoox, her star is rising. According to Wang, “that thecorner.com – and internet shopping in general – will bring her work to more people.”

Vogue China’s January 2012 “New Chinese Energy” issue with supermodel Ming Xi on the cover will also feature these five emerging designers.

  1. Great blog – and great article! I bought this issue of Vogue China yesterday and came across this article.

This issue just simply highlights how exciting this Chinese market is – I’m Malaysian, and am now actively seeking for a creative opportunity here in China, I feel the energy and I can’t wait to be a part of the momentum!
