As the taste of the young and the affluent become more and more sophisticated in China, the fine spirits market has boomed over the past several years. With the largest number of exhibitors yet, WhiskyLIVE hosted its fourth whisky tasting show on September 14th and 15th at the Le Royal Meridien in Shanghai. Locals and expats alike attended the event to taste, learn, and banter about the rich world of whisky.
Over 40 premier whisky distillers from Scotland, Japan, Ireland, Sweden, and the USA showcased their brands with tasteful displays, live demonstrations, and knowledgeable brand ambassadors. But of course, there is much more to whisky than what meets the lips.
In the Singleton Education Zone, attendees learned about what whisky is and how to taste it. Chivas offered sessions on the art of blending whisky. Johnnie Walker gave lessons on whisky and food pairing. A walk past the Collector’s Zone provided a rare glimpse of authentic antique vintage bottling.
Brands such as Glenmorangie, Glenfarclas, Mackmyra, and Hakushu also hosted Master Classes. Accommodating up to 75 people, these private classes provided attendees insights into the world of whisky and the opportunity to interact with master distillers and industry experts.
The next WhiskyLIVE event will be held in Taipei on September 22nd and 23rd.
