Shanghai Tang to Celebrate 20th Anniversary with ‘China Fashion Chic’ Runway Show

Shanghai Tang is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a major runway event. China Fashion Chic—which will take place on October 24th in Shanghai—will display new collections and spotlight local talent.

Tang has asked designers Masha Ma, Wang Peiyi, and Joseph Li to create lines that will showcase a hybrid of their own style and the brand’s style that consumers have come to know and love.

The brand is also working on a number of other events to accompany the runway show including an awards ceremony, a fashion academy, and competitions for up and coming designers. Tang is hoping to take these events to Milan, Paris, London and other fashion hubs following their Shanghai premiere.

Tang will also commemorate their anniversary with the release of limited-edition mirrored sunglasses (a collaboration with AM Eyewear), as well as ten different mandarin-collared jackets featuring Pop Art colors, Liberty prints, velvet, and leather options.

After opening flagship stores in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the brand opened an additional 45 boutiques in Asia over the last two years. Shanghai Tang executive chairman Raphael Le Masne de Chermont told Women’s Wear Daily that the brand’s success in Asia has indicated further potential for expansion. Accordingly, the company is moving forward with plans to inaugurate their first European store in London next year.

Le Masne de Chermont says that Tang’s European stores will take a different approach than their Asian stores. He says that the brand’s new concept will include home-ware and accessories.

The brand is working with Shanghai-based contemporary artist Jacky Tsai, to design six nature-inspired works. These pieces will be sold individually, but also as prints on shawls, bangles, notebooks, clothing and other merchandise.

“It’s time for us to step up and go into the big fashion world, time to raise the flag and show the world that we have been growing significantly,” Le Masne de Chermont said.
