China Fashion Week in Beijing wrapped over a week ago and now Shanghai Fashion Week is set to kick off.
Beijing’s fashion week has the official designation as China Fashion Week, but Shanghai will make its case for the most fashionable city in China with Shanghai Fashion Week, which runs from April 9-17 at the Shanghai Xintiandi Taiping Lake Park Show convention center.
The fashion event will showcase a mix of designers from Shanghai as well as international brands. Designers from around Shanghai include, Ban Xiao Xue, Quihao, Martin for I-Dou, We Couture, Decoster, AK Club, and Ji Cheng x Sheme. Larger brands from China, including Tony Wear and Aimer will also there.
A number of international brands will present, including Oasis, Blackgateone, Kelly Bui, and DSquared2.
In an interview with That’s Shanghai, Lu Xiaolei, the vice secretary of the Shanghai Fashion Week committee spoke briefly about what sets Shanghai Fashion Week apart from Beijing’s China Fashion Week.
“If I have to point at a specific difference, I would say China Fashion Week is more mature than us, although we have our own specialties. Ours is “Shanghai” fashion week, while the one in Beijing, being “China” fashion week, has a somewhat wider scope, drawing designers from all over the country. We are more localized, and really want more fresh blood to flow in,” Xiaolei said.
On what we can expect from Shanghai Fashion Week 2014, Xialei said, “A new stage, built over Taiping Lake in Xintiandi; a different look for our tents; and a slew of new designers. We’ll have 45 shows in total. Oh, and our closing show: we have international mavericks Dsquared2 coming for that – really quite excting, if you ask me.”
