Desiring an exquisite meal from a renowned chef in one of the most intimate dining settings?

Award-winning chef Thomas Keller will be the guest chef at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong from November 29 through December 2.  Keller is the first American chef to achieve three Michelin stars simultaneously for two restaurants, The French Laundry and Per Se.

Keller and his team of seven from The French Laundry will re-create his signature dishes of contemporary American cuisine with heavy French influence at two of the hotel’s restaurants, The Mandarin Grill and The Krug Room, the hotel’s private dining room.

There are reportedly only three Krug Rooms in the world.

The Krug Room in the Mandarin Oriental HK is a tasteful and chic private dining room hidden away in the heart of the restaurant’s kitchens. An intimate space for 12 dinner guests, the room is decorated with floors and chairs constructed from the same oak used to make champagne barrels, the light fixtures are made from Hermès plates stacked at different levels.  The tableware was specially designed by Hermès with Chinese poetry calligraphy designs.

The Krug Room has the largest collection of Krug champagnes outside of France.  Dinner guests can view the food preparation through a glass window that separates the dining room and the kitchen, and food is personally served by the chef himself.

Helmed by Mandarin Oriental’s Executive Chef Uwe Opocensky, a 14-course “chef’s choice” menu with one glass of Krug champagne is typically HK$1,988 (US$256) per person.

The rumor price for the meal prepared by guest chef Thomas Keller is around HK$5,000 (US$645) per person.

Guests will sample some of Keller’s most famous dishes including “Oysters and Pearls” and “Cornets of Marinated Atlantic Salmon” and bring home signed copies of The French Laundry Cookbook.

“To say we are excited for Thomas Keller’s arrival at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is an understatement”, said Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Executive Assistant Manager of Food and Beverage David Collas. “Thomas Keller is a superbly talented chef, and diners who have the opportunity to meet with him and enjoy the true French Laundry dining experience are indeed very fortunate. Keller’s food is a work of art and diners can expect to enjoy an exceptional menu full of flavour and life.”

Can one put a price on amazing gastronomy?
