With mobile seeing explosive growth in China, smartphone makers are hoping to reach this booming market with innovative product features.
LG Electronics unveiled the first curved screen smartphone for the Chinese market. According to China Daily, the company wants to use the curved phone “to open the door” to the 4G market in China.
“Curved screen is set to be the next mega trend in the industry and about 40 percent of the devices sold will equip such displays by 2018,” said LG. Samsung introduced a curved screen smartphone last October, but not to China.
The smartphone will target China’s luxury consumers at a price of 4,999 yuan (US$826).
The first 10,000 phones will be sold through local e-commerce site JD.com this Friday. LG will increase shipment if early demands are robust. The company is eager to introduce the product in time for the Spring Festival, which is also one of China’s major shopping holiday.
