China’s luxury travel industry to take off

The market for customized luxury travel has great potential in China, and travel agencies offering customized travel are vying to meet the demands of wealthy Chinese travelers.

Life TM Group, launched in 2008, is undoubtedly the pioneer in the high-end travel market. In 2012, Ctrip, a mainland China-focused travel agency, formed a strategic alliance with Life TM.

While many travel agencies focus on the general travel market, Life TM is aiming at a niche high-end market, and has in the past, for example, rented a ship for an in-depth excursion to the North Pole, which attracted 138 tourists, with sales reaching more than 10 million yuan (US$1.64 million).

There is lots of opportunity in the luxury travel market, especially to cater for clients who have at least US$1 million available for travel, said You Jinzhang, general manager of HHTravel, Life TM’s travel brand.
