Louis Vuitton, Hong Kong

For the 11th year, Interbrand, a major brand consulting firm to many of the world’s largest companies, has published their list of the 100 Best Global Brands.

So which luxury brands made the cut?

Louis Vuitton tops the list ranking 16. Other luxury brands in the top 100 included Gucci (#44), Hermes (#69), Tiffany & Co. (#76), Cartier (#77), Armani (#95), and Burberry (#100).

Despite difficult economic conditions in parts of the world, many of the luxury brands moved up the charts this year.

Among automobile companies, which were classified separately from luxury companies, Mercedes-Benz ranked 12th followed by BMW which ranked 15th. Other luxury automakers included Volkswagen (#55), Audi (#63), Porsche (#72), and Ferrarri (#91).

Interbrand used three key criteria to determine a brand’s value: financial performance of the branded products, role of brand in purchase-decision process, and strength for the brand to continue to be profitable

Interestingly, brands that ranked 30th and below were a mix bag of classic and newer brands that had a common thread: they had a clear image, a reputation for excellence in their field and either a timelessness or adaptability to the changing market.
