Asian models are changing the face of international fashion.
While they have yet to become household names, they are appearing in runways and ad campaigns.
Most of the Asian models gaining recognition are women…until now.
Louis Vuitton has tapped Taiwanese model Godfrey Gao to be the first Asian male face of the brand. He will appear in the spring/summer 2011 campaign with the Damier Graphite “Elvis” messenger bag, which will arrive in Singapore stores in March.
Stephen Lee of New York’s NEXT Model Management, thinks this trend of featuring Asian models will stay.
“There’s been a very significant rise and demand towards the Asian look in the last five years, specifically from the Chinese market with its burgeoning economy and accessibility to a huge population. I do believe it’s now an established market that will only grow as high-end products become even more accessible to the Asian population,” Lee said.
