American fashion designer Nanette Lepore, an advocate of “Made in the USA”, has plans to open stores and shop-in-shops in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
Clothes for her China stores will continue to be manufactured in the US.
The first shop-in-shop will open in March or April 2012 in Jiu Guang department store in Shanghai. According to Robert Savage, chief executive officer of Lepore and Lepore’s husband, this will be followed by four more freestanding stores or shop-in-shops in 2013 with two in Shanghai, one in Beijing and one in Hong Kong.
Nanette Lepore stores will be about 1,600 to 1,800 square feet. Space availability will determine whether they will be freestanding stores or shop-in-shops according to Savage.
Currently, Lepore only sells through Seibu Department Stores in Hong Kong for the China market. Most of her stores are located in the US, but she has locations in Tokyo and London.
Lepore enjoys a strong following among editors, style-makers and celebrities including Freida Pinto, Sharon Stone, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Eva Longoria Parker, Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Abigail Breslin.
