Luxury fashion house Chanel choses Beijing as the city to house its first watch boutique in mainland China.

The newly opened store, designed by New York-based architect Peter Marino, is located at China World Shopping Mall, which is a home to a string of luxury brands including TOD’sLoewe and Givenchy.

Inspired by Coco Chanel’s mansion at Rue Cambon, Paris, as well as traditional Chinese furniture, the new store fuses the Eastern spirit into a Western frame, and offers a full collection of Chanel’s watches from the first Première to the latest J12 Marine.

For wealthy Chinese men, luxury watches and autos are the two investment worthy items, and Cartier is the most popular brand among watch collectors, according to “2009 Best of the Best – Preferred Brands of China’s Richest”, a survey conducted by Shanghai-based domestic luxury market tracker Hurun Report.
