On July 3, the two Porsche showrooms in Shanghai greeted Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, marking the two latest Porsche premium SUV models to officially enter China.
Cayenne Turbo features a direct fuel injection (DFI) V8 engine which delivers 500 horsepower and maximum torque of 516 lb.-ft. This formula enables a top track speed of 172 mph and a 4.4-second sprint from 0–60 mph. The interior is full of luxury comforts including a Bose Surround Sound system, a Bluetooth hands-free phone interface and universal audio interface.
Cayenne S is 180kg lighter than the original Cayenne. It is also powered by a V8 engine, plus a two-stage intake manifold to create 400 horsepower and maximum torque of 369 lb.-ft. The Cayenne S accelerates from 0–60 mph in only 5.6 seconds.
Cayenne has been the most popular Porsche model in China since it entered the country in 2003. Sales of the Cayenne series account for about 80% of all Porsche models.
The launch was just two days after BMW’s 2011 X5 was introduced to the Chinese market, indicating the intensifying competition in China’s high-end auto market.
