Benz China Promotes New Car Through Art Event

Mercedes-Benz China is promoting  Smart ForTwo – a colorful, stylish mini model- through a six-month nation wide event – Smart Art Tour.

Eight progressive Chinese artists, including Liu Ye, who is famous for his cartoonish paintings, and Ji Dachun ,an oil painter,were invited to move around with the event, showing local Smart lovers contemporary art.

Event attendants will also have the opportunities to test – drive the car.

At the opening event held on May 28 in Beijing, Mao Jingbo, head of marketing at Benz China, told local media that 2,000 Smart cars had been sold since it was introduced to the Chinese market in April 2009, exceeding the company’s expectations. A limited edition in matte black was launched along with the event.

Another evidence showing how enthusiastic Chinese middle class young people are about Smart, Mao said, were the pre-orders for the tiger patterned limited edition,which was launched in early this year to celebrate the Chinese tiger year and is exclusively available in China.

“There will be only 201 cars available but we’ve got 400 orders so far, ” she said.

SmartPure, the electric version, is currently on display at the on-going Shanghai Expo. Priced at 134,800 yuan(US$19,731), Benz is scheduling its China launch.

Smart Art Tour began from Beijing in late May and will close in Shenyang in November.
