Event attendants will also have the opportunities to test – drive the car.
At the opening event held on May 28 in Beijing, Mao Jingbo, head of marketing at Benz China, told local media that 2,000 Smart cars had been sold since it was introduced to the Chinese market in April 2009, exceeding the company’s expectations. Another evidence showing how enthusiastic Chinese middle class young people are about Smart, Mao said, were the pre-orders for the tiger patterned limited edition, which was launched in early this year to celebrate the Chinese tiger year and is exclusively available in China.
“There will be only 201 cars available but we’ve got 400 orders so far, ” she said.
SmartPure, the electric version, is currently on display at the on-going Shanghai Expo. Priced at 134,800 yuan(US$19,731), Benz is scheduling its China launch.
